AN OSWESTRY bookshop has launched a campaign linked to England footballer Marcus Rashford MBE.

Booka Bookshop is running a Crowdfunding campaign aiming to raise £8,000 which will help Shropshire children living in poverty to access a copy of Rashford's new book You're A Champion: How To Be the Best You Can Be.

You're A Champion is full of stories from the England and Manchester United footballer's childhood and is full of advice and tips, encouraging children to dream big.

A spokesperson said: "Marcus Rashford MBE is an impressive role model and someone we can all learn from.

"He has campaigned tirelessly to end food poverty throughout the pandemic and has also been advocating the importance and power of books as having a transformative impact on the lives of young people.

"He is passionate about getting books into the hands of young readers, particularly those who might not own a book of their own and may not have access to books.

"We share his vision and with your help we want to get as many books into the hands of children in our local area as possible."

For each £5 donated Booka will supply one book and it is hoped 1,600 copies of You're A Champion can be distributed to children in local primary and secondary schools.

So far £780 has been raised.

They added: "Around 20 per cent of children in Shropshire are living in poverty and food poverty levels are on the increase as a result of the economic difficulties that the pandemic has caused.

"We will be working with local schools, to distribute books to children who need and will benefit from this book, along with our local Foodbank and other agencies who have links with families and children who might not otherwise have access to books."
