WITH the Queen set to celebrate 70 years on the throne next year, business leaders in Oswestry are set to bring a taste of the seaside to Festival Square.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations will take place in 2022, and bosses at Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID) are proposing to bring a family-friendly sandy beach scene to the square near Cae Glas Park.
Adele Nightingale, BID manager, says the idea was driven by wanting to do something different to celebrate the jubilee but warned the idea is still in its early stages.
"We wanted to mark the occasion by putting on something a little different,' said Ms Nightingale.
"While we're still in the early stages of planning, we hope the beach will be enjoyed by families and attract visitors to the town.
"There'll be entertainment going on around the town in line with the seaside theme and local businesses can get involved."
BID's plan at the moment is for the beach to be on Festival Square from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5 to coincide with the long Bank Holiday weekend.
