A MAJOR Oswestry road will remain one-way after the end of social distancing as part of a wider trial being carried out by Shropshire Council.
During the first loosening of lockdown restrictions in 2020, the council introduced the one-way system in Church Street to allow greater space for pedestrians to pass one another and adhere to the two-metre space guidelines introduced by the government.
However, despite Monday's end to social distancing rules, the council has decided to keep the one-way system in place with greater consideration being given to making the arrangement permanent.
The move was announced on Thursday by the council, which previously consulted on changes to the traffic flow in the road for much of 2020.
Under that proposal – which ended in December last year – it was planned that a traffic lane and loading bay would be removed, plus the relocation of a disabled bay to nearby Festival Square to allow greater access for pedestrians.
