AN INDEPENDENT travel agency with its headquarters near Oswestry received a visit from BBC News ahead of the three-week review of the UK’s travel list.

Television cameras visited Polka Dot Travel in Babbinswood to discuss how the impending review could have an impact on the business once again.

Polka Dot Travel reopened on Monday, July 12 having been closed for almost 12 months, but there are concerns that one of their customers’ most popular destinations, the Balearic Islands, may slip from the green list back into the amber list.

Philippa Wilcox, company director at Polka Dot Travel, has vowed the firm will be there to support its customers if the change is announced.

She said: “On June 24 we were delighted with the news that the Balearic Islands were making the green list, we immediately saw a huge increase in business from customers desperate to get away this summer.

“With today’s speculation that this destination could turn to amber, we will be ready to support our customers should they need us.

“Amber destinations now mean a customer that isn’t double vaccinated will need to quarantine for 10 days on return and test on day two and day eight.

“Customers can choose to test and release on day five if they would prefer to release early.”

Helen Johnson, fellow company director, said there has been an increase in demand for bookings since the last travel list announcement, which saw a handful of destinations moved to the green list.

She said: “It’s been wonderful to welcome all of our staff back to work, to have some normality for our company and most of all to welcome and support our customers in store.

“We are seeing an increase in demand for holidays away with Greece and the Balearic Islands in August and September being our best-selling destination so far this week.

“We’ve seen more demand than previous years for winter escapes with the Canary Islands being extremely popular.”

The BBC staff interviewed a third director of Polka Dot Travel Mark Johnson.

He said: “They were keen to hear how this latest possible change is likely to impact us again.

“I was happy to share our thoughts and talk about how our travel business has been affected by the pandemic.”
