AN OSWESTRY primary school has retained its Safer Schools Award after a ‘thorough and positive’ meeting with representatives from the initiative.
Woodside Primary School has kept the award after a survey showed its pupils feel safe at school.
They held the meeting with staff, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Council’s Crime Prevention Officer, Ian Bartlett.
Mr Bartlett said the feedback from pupils was very positive and reassuring.
“Following the past disruptive year, headteacher Claire Bennett was keen to continue with the security and safety initiative called Safer Schools,” he said.
“Recently, the school held a Safer School meeting involving staff, pupils from the School Council, West Mercia Police and myself.
“As previously, it was an enthusiastic meeting with good contributions made by all those present, and especially the pupils.
“The pupils were keen to emphasise how they felt safe at school and we reviewed the results of a pupil survey, which was very positive and reassuring.
“In addition, during this meeting we reflected on any school incidents, updated the security/safety checklist and reviewed feedback from parents/carers.
“A thorough and positive meeting. The school was presented with a new Safer School certificate and a future annual meeting will be scheduled for 2022.”
