RESIDENTS in a Gobowen street have been promised that work to solve a long-term sewage problem will start in this calendar year.

Fernhill Road is blighted with flooded sewage water when there is heavy rain, with gardens and roads often left under water.

Severn Trent Water is responsible for the management of the sewers around the area, and in May, residents slammed the provider for failing to control the sewage water, leading to car tyres and footwear needing cleaning.

This led to another call from residents to stop using short-term measures and carry out the long-term promise of replacing sewer pipes.

However, in a letter seen by The Advertizer, Severn Trent has confirmed a contractor for the work although a date is yet-to-be announced.

It said: "We would firstly like to apologise for the distress and inconvenience you have all endured over a number of years.

"We can confirm that a contractor has now been assigned to this scheme – we are just waiting for confirmation of the traffic management plan to be put in place, to enable us to confirm a start date.

"Once a date has been secured to start the work, we will write to you again.

"Please be assured that this scheme will happen this year and your issues with sewage flooding will be resolved."

Residents believe the work will begin in the autumn and added that the road has flooded again during recent heavy rains, including on Tuesday morning.
