A FOOTBALL club based in Chirk has donated a set of small goalposts for children to be placed at a park in the town.

Chirk AAA Football Club has provided the goalposts for Black Park, a park run by Chirk Town Council, to allow children in both Chirk and Halton to enjoy them.

Mark Holmes, who has worked with the club in numerous roles, has helped to secure the equipment, as well as several footballs for children living in the area.

Chairman of Chirk AAA, Colin Heyward, said the club is hoping to encourage younger children to play football again as Covid-19 restrictions ease.

He said: “With the easing of the Covid restrictions we are eagerly promoting 'football in the community'.

“We are also pushing ahead with our plans for the new season which has an early start this year July 2021.”

Chirk Town Council is looking to remove some of the shrubs in the play area to give more space for children to play in a secure outside space.

Councillor Frank Hemmings has confirmed he is working alongside Mr Holmes to improve the sporting facilities available in Chirk for people of all ages.

Cllr Hemmings and Mr Holmes were both present as the goalposts were unveiled at Black Park recently.

Meanwhile, Chirk AAA have been preparing to return to the pitch for competitive action.

After another Covid-disrupted season, the side are back in training and preparing for the upcoming league campaign.
