A GP in St Martins could be set to close permanently, after it was temporarily shut during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The St Martins branch of Chirk GP Surgery has notified residents living in the area that a proposal has been put forward to move the services from the St Martins base to the Chirk site.

A letter was sent out to residents registered with the GP informing them of the proposed amalgamation, which would see the St Martins surgery close.

The letter read: “As you may be aware, we have had to make some difficult choices and changes to the way we work over the past year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have considered a number of different options to reopen the building.

"Unfortunately, we do not have an alternative arrangement that would enable us to provide a safe and appropriate standard of care in St Martins.

“While we have enjoyed a long history in St Martins, the building itself is in great need of internal renovation and we very much wish to continue to offer high quality services but in a safe and sustainable way.

“We are applying to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to consider our proposal to close GP services at St Martins.”

The letter explained how the closure would not see any adverse effect to services.
