A former solicitor turned financial advisor who was jailed for defrauding clients out of £1.4 million is facing jail again after he admitted stealing another £600,000.

David Vaughan Jones, 82, of Llandrinio, pleaded guilty to six charges of theft from one victim between June 2005 and August 2010 when he appeared via videolink at Mold Crown Court on Friday, May 21.

Judge Niclas Parry adjourned sentence until June 7, and told him to "certainly come prepared" for a prison sentence, but gave him credit for his early guilty plea.

He faced six charges, all committed against Sharon Myler at Welshpool, which were each worth tens or even hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The court was told that the crimes were committed at the same time as Jones' previous convictions for numerous theft and fraud crimes with a total value of £1.4 million, for which he was sentenced to six years in prison in May 2017.

On the previous occasion, he had persuaded 14 victims, including close friends, to pay into offshore investments to generate a higher rate of interest than in the UK.

Jones was struck off by The Law Society in 1991 before describing himself as a financial adviser, tax consultant and accountant despite having no qualifications in that field.

He admitted 24 theft and fraud charges between 1994 and 2015.

Jones had his assets, including his home, car and shareholding in a local business, seized and sold. He claimed money was held in the Channel Islands and he could compensate everyone.

Jones was released from prison in May last year and has since been on supervised licence.

The charges to which he pleaded guilty at today's hearing were recorded as being worth £150,000, £160,000, £98,000, £30,000, £80,000 and £88,000.

The total value, therefore, was £606,000.
