THE outgoing mayor of Oswestry, Councillor Duncan Kerr, has helped launch a vital service for people living with dementia at Oswestry Library.
Cllr Kerr joined with Liz Dorricott from Coverage Care – which operates New Fairholme, which is taking part in the project – to act as representatives for the main sponsors of a project with a brand-new collection of borrowable items for local people living with memory loss.
Team librarian Heather Rodenhurst thanked both for attending the launch and says the project will provide plenty of support for those who will need it.
She said: “We’re delighted to offer local people the opportunity to borrow helpful items free of charge, including games, song books, memory bags, fidget widgets, books and much more.
"We hope that the collection will provide stimulation, diversion and enjoyment for those living with dementia and their carers.”
A spokesperson for Coverage Care New Fairholme said: “It’s such a wonderful project and we do hope it’s a great success.”
Library staff were also pleased to welcome Val Brown, Alzheimer’s Society volunteer and a stalwart champion of Dementia Friendly Oswestry.
