A SENIOR police officer in Oswestry has spelt out a simple message to revellers headed back into pubs for the first time this weekend: be sensible!

Inspector Claire Greenaway, from Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), made the call after pub bosses from all over north Shropshire admitted that while they were delighted to have customers back, they were cautious on how Saturday would unfold.

Inspector Greenaway said that people headed to pubs need to abide by the law and stick to the rules set out as part of reopenings, and said police will be watching.

"We are aware that this weekend will see many people head back to the pubs following the ease of restrictions," she said.

"This is good news for the venues as many have seen some very difficult times over the last 12 months.

"I hope that members of the public will respect the measures that the pubs have taken and bear in mind that restrictions inside the venue will still be in place.

"Many venues will still have a reduced capacity. Please plan ahead, find out from your chosen venue if they are operating a booking system to avoid disappointment.

"Some venues will have signage or staff in place to advise when they are at capacity. Please respect this advice and chose a different venue that may have capacity to seat you.

"Ultimately we ask that people are sensible, respectful of those who live in areas where the night time economy operates.

"Officers will be keeping a watchful eye to ensure that all are afforded a safe and enjoyable night out."
