A CHESTER city centre car park was closed after smoke was seen coming from it.

Emergency services were called to the multi-storey Market Car Park off Princess Street and Nicholas Street, amid reports of smoke, shortly before noon on Sunday, May 16.

Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building to find smoke coming from a diesel generator unit.

Firefighters isolated the generator and used a large fan to help ventilate the building.

They carried out a search of the car park to check that no-one was trapped inside. There are no reports of any injuries.

Crews were at the scene for two hours and 10 minutes.

Police were also in attendance to manage traffic in the area and to stop anyone from entering the car park.
