ONE of Llanfyllin’s largest employers says discussions are ongoing about the future of its factory amid hopes it could yet be rescued.

Stadco, a car parts manufacturer with a base in Ffordd Y Cain, said its Powys site continues to operate supplying customers as discussions continue about the future of the site.

The future of the operation remains in doubt after the company announced plans to close last year – but town mayor Peter Lewis said the factory remained busy.

The Stadco spokesman said: “Stadco Powys, a manufacturing division of Magna International Inc.’s Cosma International operating unit, continues to operate in support of our customers.

“Discussions are on-going about the site, and we will provide an update when there are further developments.”

The site employs more than 130 workers, with Llanfyllin mayor, Councillor Peter Lewis, describing it as an important part of the town.

He believes it is paramount that the manufacturing site remains in the town and continues to employ many of the region’s residents.

“At the moment, Stadco in Llanfyllin is very busy, which is good news,” he said.

“It is very encouraging to see, and there are more workers there at the moment.

“Stadco is a great employer, a fantastic factory and a very important part of Llanfyllin.”

In November last year, union chiefs claimed that there were up to four potential buyers for the Stadco factory after it was announced in October that the company planned to close the plant.

Cllr Lewis discussed the matter briefly at a virtual meeting of Llanfyllin Town Council in November last year, and stated that things ‘looked positive’.
