A POPULAR garden produce show will not go ahead for a second year running, because of uncertainties surrounding the easing of the Covid-19 lockdown.
At a recent meeting over Zoom, the Gatacre Allotments committee members decided that it was wise to cancel this year’s Allotment Show for the second year, because of the uncertainties of the pandemic.
A spokesman for the committee says there will be some competitive elements for this year and that they hope to be back with a full show in 12 months.
"We all hope that we shall be back in 2022," the spokesman said.
"However some competitions will go ahead; there is a trophy for the tidiest allotment, a trophy for the most productive allotment and also a trophy for the tidiest side in Gitten Street/Lloyd Street.
"These will be presented on August 21, which is the date the show should have been held and will be open to Allotment holders only.

"Also on this day a (private) competition will be held for any interested Allotment holder to put on a display of garden produce on their own plot on their own table, or basket or even a wheelbarrow or anything of their choice.
"There will be a £10 garden voucher as a first prize for both sides.
"There will be posters on the gates in July with information for entry dates."
