THE MP for Chirk has praised the owners at one of the town’s pubs for its efforts in helping the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Clwyd South MP, Simon Baynes, visited the Stanton House Inn, in Holyhead Road, to congratulate owners Mark and Chelly Jones after the pub was named as a finalist in the Best of Welsh Business Awards in the Best Pub and Social Club category.

Mr Baynes also attended to see the new garden at the back of the premises, and to praise the couple for their sense of community spirit during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The MP said the couple have done the area proud and their work has not gone unnoticed.

He said:“I was delighted to hear that Stanton House as a local Chirk business had been nominated for the Best of Welsh Business Awards – particularly as this has been a very difficult year for the hospitality industry across North Wales and the rest of the country.

“I was very impressed by their new garden at the back of the premises which is proving very popular with their customers.

“They have certainly done our area proud. The work Mark and Chelly Jones do for the local community in Chirk hasn’t gone unnoticed, particularly throughout the lockdown this year.

“I want to thank them personally for all they have done and continue to do.”

Landlord, Chelly, described some of the work the pair have done during the pandemic.

She said: “We’ve had a full on year at Stanton House despite the lockdown, as we’ve continued to offer takeaways and gotten ready to re-open.

“We’ve also donated to Chirk Hospital, Chirk Court and Plas Bod Llwyd Care Homes, who have done amazing work throughout the pandemic.

“Before Stanton House, I worked for 24 years in dementia care so I understand just how difficult the pandemic has made things, and wanted to offer our help.”

She thanked those who have supported the business throughout the difficult period, and said it has been a pleasure reopening to welcome customers back.

“The community is amazing in supporting us so we wanted to give something back,” Chelly said.

“We wanted them to know their more than just customers, as if it wasn’t for the community, Stanton House wouldn’t be Stanton House.

“It’s been a pleasure welcoming back all our friends and customers and we really look forward to continuing to offer our hospitality to everyone in the wider community.”
