LOCAL councillors in Pant say they are shocked by the death of two people at an address in the village.

On Wednesday an investigation was launched by West Mercia Police following the 'unexplained' death of a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s.

Councillors for Llanymynech and Pant Parish Council say they are shocked by the news.

Council chairman, Dilys Gaskill said the news was 'not typical' of an area like Pant.

"It's not very nice news, it's something that very rarely happens," said Cllr Gaskill.

"It's not typical for the area, just a bit of a shock to the system.

"We're just coming out of lockdown, it must have been awful for the people concerned.

"It's not a common everyday experience, it is sad, people being in such a state."

Cllr Gaskill says supporting Pant residents is the priority.

"All you can do is support people and try to reassure them.

"We've seen people in the white suits around gathering evidence, so it just shakes you up a bit.

"You just don't expect this sort of thing to happen on your doorstep.

"We're waiting to find out what happened to reassure people it is nothing to be worries about."

Meanwhile a spokesman for West Mercia Police said investigations are continuing.

"At around 10.45am yesterday police were called with concerns for a man's safety in Pant, Oswestry," a spokesman said.

"The bodies of a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s were sadly found at the address."

The spokesman added: "The investigation continues and next of kin have been informed.

"We would like to reassure the community that we do not believe there to have been any third party involvement at this time. "
