A pensioner has been given a driving ban after being caught drug driving in Llanfyllin.

William Frederick Davenport Price, 67, pleaded guilty when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, April 20.

The court heard that Price was stopped by a police officer in the middle of the town just after 2pm on November 23, 2020.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said Price had glazed eyes and provided a positive blood test of 140 microgrammes of benzoylecgonine, which is a cocaine derivative. The legal limit is 50 microgrammes.

Price, who was representing himself, said he was suffering from stress at the time. He said that he drove the next day after being told that it would be OK.

"I am guilty as charged," he told the court.

Chair of the magistrates bench Cynthia McVey banned Price from driving for 12 months and gave him a £120 fine.

He will also pay £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
