A COMMUNITY has been praised for its response after a hang glider was injured in a fall in a north Powys village on Friday.

Members of the community in Llansilin, near Oswestry, rushed to help the injured hang glider who fell and landed in a field behind Maes Y Llan crescent.

According to witnesses, two air ambulances responded to the incident, alongside police, paramedics and the Welsh Ambulance Service were in attendance.

Chris Richards, who was present during the response, praised the community for their response to help the injured man after his fall.

He said: “Lots of people ran to him, not knowing what they would encounter – this man had fallen out of the sky basically.

“And just to see people respond in the way that they did was incredible really.

“People just found tasks to do to help in any way they could. I’m sure a lot of communities would do the same, but it just felt really special.

“The poor guy, who was a complete stranger, had an accident and within seconds there was around 10 people helping him. It was amazing.”

Chris said the community is sending its best wishes to the man after his injury, and hopes to find out if he is ok.

“We haven’t heard anything about his condition,” he said. “When he came down, he was unconscious, but breathing.

“It was tragic for this guy, and we all hope he is ok. We’d love to know if he is ok, but we don’t know who he is so we can’t ask.”

Members of the community in attendance were also keen to praise the rapid response of the emergency services which arrived at the scene soon after the accident occurred.

Chris said: “We had the Welsh Ambulance Service, Welsh Air Ambulance and the West Midlands Air Ambulance in attendance, as well as two groups of paramedics in cars and two cars of Dyfed Powys Police officers.

“I rang 999, and it took 15 minutes and seven seconds from me picking up the phone until a doctor was stood with him – which is phenomenal.

“We had two air ambulances on the scene – it was an incredible response from the emergency services.

“A member of the public ran to get the village defibrillator – we didn’t need it thankfully, but it was a great response.

“The local school, Ysgol Bro Cynllaith, provided blankets after they were requested by the paramedics at the scene.”

The Welsh Ambulance Service and Wales Air Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
