Whitchurch 67-1 beat Shrewsbury IIIs 66 all out by nine wickets
WHITCHURCH opened their Henshalls Shropshire Premier League season with an emphatic nine wicket win at Shrewsbury IIIs.
Daniel Bowen (4-24) starred with four wickets for Whitchurch with support from Patrick Phillips (2-24) reducing the hosts to 39-6.
Luke Thornton (15) and Llyr Thomas (13) top scored for the Shrews before Kashif Hussain (3-10) and Ryan Brown (1-5) polished off the tail end resistance and left the home side skittled for 66 in the 17th over
Elliot Bowen carried his bat with an unbeaten 36 to inspire Whitchurch in reply.
Fellow opener Maisam Hasnain Jaffri was snared LBW by Bradley Thornton (1-27) for 20 to bring Andy Jones (9no) to the crease and join Bowen in an unbroken second wicket stand and guide their side to 67-1 in the ninth over.
