THE number of Covid-19 cases reported weekly in Shropshire almost halved in the seven days to April 8.

Between April 2 and April 8, 32 new cases were reported across the county, meaning a decrease of 29 cases from the previous seven-day period.

The seven-day infection rate for Shropshire was 9.9 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 of the population.

Of the newly-reported cases, none were found in people over the age of 70, while 40 per cent of cases were related to people under 30.

Almost half (48 per cent) of the 32 cases were in north Shropshire, with 40 per cent in Shrewsbury and Atcham and 12 per cent in south Shropshire.

Three hospital beds at the county’s hospitals were occupied by Covid-19 patients.

There were no Covid-19-related deaths at hospitals in Shropshire during the seven days.
