A TEAM from a Rotary club in Oswestry were keeping the town tidy at the weekend as part of their work in the community.

Oswestry Cambrian Rotary members were at Wilfred Owen Green and on Shelf Bank carrying out a litter pick.

A total of 10 binbags full of rubbish was collected during the outing, with the biggest bags containing items including an abandoned tent.

Organiser and Rotarian, Mike Lade, said it was disappointing to see rubbish left in the area, particularly in a children’s play area.

He said: “It was very disappointing to have to pick up so much broken glass from the children’s play area and from the wood chippings around the swings.

“It is so stupid as well as being an awful hazard to any young children playing in the area.”

The group is looking to welcome more members aged 18 and over from the local area.

Meetings are usually held at The Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, every Thursday at 7.45pm.

Current Covid-19 restrictions prevent meetings from happening at the moment.
