PERMISSION has been granted for the conversion of farm buildings into homes.

Powys County Council planners have given the green light to the Llangedwyn Estate to convert agricultural buildings at Wern Oleu into residential homes.

This development will include hardstanding, access provision and connection to services including a foul system, soakaway and oil tank.

A design and access statement which was submitted with the application, states: "The site forms part of the original farmstead of Wern Oleu, however, the traditional buildings are no longer suitable for agricultural use due to the evolution of farming practice and and the increased size of agricultural machinery.

"The proposal offers adequate provision of car parking and on-site turning areas. It is proposed that car parking for the residential dwellings is provided within the context of the site to avoid unnecessary incursion into the open countryside.

"It is considered that the proposal is in accordance with national and local planning policy. It provides a sustainable development utilising an existing structure whilst offering ecological enhancement and community benefit, in terms of farm diversification and and additional residents to the community, who will in turn support local businesses and services."

The statement adds: "The proposed diversification will be of an intensity of use appropriate to the location and setting and will have no detrimental effect on the vitality of any adjacent land usages, either individually or through cumulative impact."
