THE Covid-19 infection rate in Shropshire hit a six-month low in the seven days to April 1.

Between March 26 and April 1, 61 new cases of Covid-19 were reported across the county. This was 31 fewer than the number of cases reported in the previous seven-day period.

The seven-day infection rate for Shropshire during the period was 18.9 cases per 100,000 of the population.

There were no Covid-19-related deaths at Shropshire hospitals during the week, with five hospital beds occupied by Covid-19 patients.

Of the 61 new cases, 32 per cent were in north Shropshire, while 30 per cent were in the Shrewsbury & Atcham area and 38 per cent were in south Shropshire.

People under the age of 30 accounted for 30 per cent of the cases, while two per cent were related to people aged over 70.

Eight per cent of cases were linked to care homes within Shropshire.
