Rodney's Pillar has not deteriorated during the coronavirus pandemic, trustees working to save the monument have revealed.

Progress to restore the pillar has been frustrated during the pandemic, with most of the fundraising ideas to save the site having to be postponed while restrictions remain in place.

But trustees of the Save Rodney's Pillar campaign have now re-surveyed the pillar using a grand from Cadw, and updated the costings of the site.

A spokesman said: "Whilst the report is still in draft form, trustees were relieved to find that although the Pillar is still classed as ‘vulnerable’ that no significant deterioration has been found since the last survey in 2018. We are very mindful that it is extremely vulnerable to high winds and lightning damage.

"In a similar vein more detailed costings have been produced which show no major increase and which can be used to form the basis of a tender document.

"The Pillar is such an iconic part of our landscape -much more work is now needed to progress this important Project – can you help? – we are in particular need of anyone with marketing skills but any offers of help would be gladly accepted.

"Many thanks to the committee of Llandrinio Village Hall and Criggion Estate who have allowed four signs to be displayed which direct residents to the Just Giving page for the charity."
