AN ELLESMERE-BASED Hollywood screenwriter will be telling her story at a special event next month.

Catherine Wignall – daughter of Ellesmere College headmaster Brendan and Ellesmere town councillor Anne – will speaking to Helen Rodenhurst from Shropshire Council library service on Thursday, April 1 (7pm).

She will be talking about her career to date, but with specific focus on the challenges she faced during a 2020 that some scriptwriters would turn down for being too 'over-the-top'.

The event description said: "Having written a novel by the age of 12 and with an English degree under her belt, Catherine determined that screenwriting was her ambition and Hollywood her goal.

"Through winning a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), by the age of 26 she was there.

"Weeks out of UCLA, she had sold her first film script.

"But it was to be a winding journey, impacted not only by the expected challenges of a competitive industry, but by the effects of a global pandemic as she pursued her dream amidst the fires, earthquakes and riots of 2020 in Los Angeles.

"Catherine will be speaking about becoming a screenwriter, the projects she is working on, and what she has learned along the way.

This event is being hosted by the Friends of Our Space (Ellesmere Library and Community Hub).
