Residents across the Ceiriog Valley have been recognised for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic in this year’s community awards initiative.

The Ceiriog Valley Community Awards Panel met virtually in February after receiving more nominations than ever before, to mark the contribution of those across the region who have helped to enhance life in the Valley during a difficult year.

A total of 14 certificates were awarded to each of the winners for their efforts during 2020, and each winner was announced on social media by Wrexham County Borough Council councillor Trevor Bates.

Jane Claybrook who has regularly volunteered to help with vaccinations, delivered groceries, meals and much more, received an award, as well as Ted and Anne Johnston who have been at the helm of lockdown lunches for the retired and self-isolating.

Iona Richards was awarded for cheering people up by painting river stones and placing them all over the Ceiriog Valley.

Postmen Alun Jones and Dave Mann and delivery agents Kara Lou and Liam were awarded for keeping deliveries coming to the Valley.

Community agents Rowena Lewis and Davena Davies were awarded for looking out for others in their communities, as was frontline worker Shirley Davies who takes blood for the local doctors practice.

A certificate was also handed to staff at the Pontfadog Post Office and Stores and the Spar/Post Office in Glyn Ceiriog after they provided extra services during the pandemic.

Other winners included; Glyn Ceiriog Pharmacy, Jonney and Alison Bendall for their efforts to get BT/Openreach to bring Fibre Broadband services to residents of Pandy.

For a number of years two people have kept flood watch on two culverts ensuring that properties did not flood in their areas, and Trevor Hughes in Llwynmawr and Gwynfryn Roberts in Glyn Ceiriog were recognised for their long term services in keeping flood watch on two culverts to ensure properties did not flood.

Many others nominated will be receiving letters of commendation for their efforts in 2020.
