Holiday cabins are set to be built on land outside Llanfyllin, and they’re like to be a cut above – as they’ll be built on stilts.

Plans to convert agricultural land next to Bachie Cottage in Llanfyllin into cabins have been given the go-ahead by Powys County Council.

The applicants had applied to the authority for change of use of land for tourism, which will see the siting of two cabins, access for vehicles, and a parking area.

And one feature of the design is that the cabins will sit on stilts, so as not to damage the woodland floor.

A planning and design statement submitted on behalf of the applicants by Roger Parry and Partners LLP said: “ The site is within the ownership of Mr and Mrs Jones and can provide an opportunity for the family to gain an additional income.

“The proposed development can be sited and developed without detrimental effect on the surrounding landscape and the existing trees.

“The local road network is capable of accommodating the negligible amount of traffic generated by the proposal.”

It adds: “The development is intelligently and sympathetically designed and strikes a balance between practical and economic efficiency and minimal landscape impact.

“The proposal is of an appropriate location, scale and type so as not to be detrimental to the amenities of any nearby existing residential properties. This development will support both the local economy and local tourism.

“The proposal also meets the need for holiday accommodation within Powys. New tourist development is encouraged because of its contribution to the economy in terms of visitor spending, supporting local business and employment generation.”
