ELLESMERE Town Council is set to launch a community volunteer group next month as Covid-19 restrictions are eased.

The plans have been put in place by Councillor Tim Hunter, for a council-run volunteer group aimed at keeping the town presentable.

At Ellesmere Town Council's full council meeting, held virtually on Monday, March 1, Cllr Hunter explained that a number of individuals had already begun working, unaffiliated with the council ahead of the group officially being launched in April.

"After discussion with [council clerk] Jo Butterworth we wouldn’t be starting till April until we are clear of the covid restrictions," said Cllr Hunter. "Everything is more or less ready to go, we just need to launch a volunteer campaign and if we will start asking people.

"People have taken things into their own hands and have already started.

"I have issued a number of litter pickers to people that just want to get on with it.

"It keeps cropping up, people keep asking for a solution and we are still looking at April before we start.

"There is one gentleman that is making a little bit of a noise on Facebook and goading us but I did put him right as he knows we are forming a volunteer group.

"There is activity going on round the mere round the town going on already by individuals, but having an organised Ellesmere Town Council group is not going be until April."
