AN OSWESTRY-born pro-golfer is set to take part in one of the sport’s major tournaments once again.

Ian Woosnam OBE confirmed on social media that he will compete in the Masters 2021, 30 years after he won the tournament.

The 62-year-old, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017, said he can not wait to compete again.

He posted on Twitter: “Got my invitation to play the 2021 Masters.

“I’m going for it again after saying I wouldn’t play again, but with the back operation which has gone really well, I’m going to play again.

“Can’t wait.”

Woosnam began playing golf as a youngster at Llanymynech Golf Club, before embarking on an illustrious career in the game.

He won more than 50 professional tournaments, including the Masters in 1991, and spent just under a year as the number one ranked golfer in the world in the same year.

The Masters will take place between Monday, April 5 and Sunday, April 11 in Augusta National Golf Club.
