THE MP for Clwyd South highlighted the importance of inclusive education for all children in the UK after virtually meeting with one of the country’s leading LGBT+ campaign groups.

Simon Baynes met with Stonewall chief executive Nancy Kelley to discuss LGBT-inclusive education in schools, via Zoom.

The pair discussed the importance of ensuring that every young person can feel accepted, included and safe.

Mr Baynes agreed with Ms Kelley that inclusivity provides an opportunity for the best educational experience for young people.

He said: “I was delighted to meet Nancy and to discuss issues around LGBT inclusivity, which is vitally important to give every young person the best educational experience.

“And the damaging practice of so-called ‘conversion therapy’, which I, along with the UK Government, am committed to ending in order for everyone in our country, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, to live freely.”

Ms Kelley agreed with Mr Baynes’ ambitions and said the group is looking forward to working alongside the MP.

She said: “It was terrific to speak with Simon Baynes about how to advance equality for LGBT+ people.

“We look forward to working with Simon to bring LGBT-inclusive education to every school and deliver an effective ban on LGBT+ conversion therapy.”
