STREETS in Chirk have been affected by flooding caused by Storm Christoph.

Areas including Crogen, Whitehurst and Holyhead Road are among those holding rainwater as the storm continues to affect areas across the UK.

Resident Malcolm Edwards took a picture of one of the roads in Crogen which had become submerged.

He said: “Some areas have been hit worse than this street – it’s the same problem we get every time it rains.

“It’s an ongoing problem which has happened for years. Someone came out in a van with a shovel earlier – but it needs more than that!”

Councillor Terry Evans, Wrexham County Borough Council member for Chirk South, is urging people in the town to stay at home this evening to stay safe.

He said he has been working alongside fellow councillor, Frank Hemmings, to report the issues across the town.

Cllr Evans said: “Frank and myself have both been in contact with the council and the water board.

“There are several parts of Chirk affected by it. They’re doing the best they can under the circumstances.

“Every ward across Wrexham is experiencing problems related to the storm – but we are doing all we can to reassure residents.

“The council and water board have been notified of where issues are in the area.

“Stay home and stay safe is the best advice this evening. If you need any help, get a message to me and Frank, through Facebook or over the phone, and we will do all we can.”
