HOUSEHOLD recycling centres in Wrexham are to remain open during the Christmas period.

Due to the constantly evolving Covid-19 situation, Wrexham Council have had to close some of their facilities but their recycling centres on Bryn Lane, Plas Madoc and Brymbo will remain open.

A spokesperson for the council, said: "Opening times will stay the same other than on Christmas Day when all sites will be closed.

"You can still currently attend Bryn Lane and Plas Madoc without an appointment.

"However you have to book in advance for the Brymbo site and to make an appointment, contact 01978 660796, which will be closed from 4pm on December 24 until 8am on December 29."

To help the council keep visiting times to a minimum and to speed up queues, residents are advised to pre-arrange their waste ready to deposit in the correct bays.

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, said: “Households generate more waste than usual over the Christmas period so we are expecting our sites to be busy.

"Using our sites at less busy times will help reduce waiting times.

"We’ll be implementing strict conditions onsite to ensure the safety of both staff and the public."

Before visiting a site, the council urge residents to familiarise themselves with their 10 rules to keep everyone safe.

  1. Do not go to the sites if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of Covid-19, or is ‘shielding’ because of an underlying health condition.
  2. Only bring household waste. Do not bring commercial or business waste.
  3. Bring proof that you live in the county borough (e.g. a utility bill with your address on it). The sites are for Wrexham residents only. If you do not have proof, you will not be allowed to tip your rubbish. Call 01978 660796 to book an appointment if you want to use the Brymbo site.
  4. Be patient if you have to queue. A maximum of five vehicles will be allowed on site at any one time.
  5. Make sure only one person steps outside your vehicle to unload it, and that they stick to social distancing. Note that children should stay in the car at all times, and no pets are permitted on site.
  6. Do not bring items that are too big or heavy to handle yourself. Their site attendants will not be able to help you unload your car or dispose of your waste.
  7. Sort your waste before you arrive (so you are quicker).
  8. Be polite. Aggressive behaviour towards staff will not be tolerated. Site attendants will be equipped with body cameras, and any instances will be reported to the police.
  9. Do not touch your face on-site, and bring your own sanitiser if you can (clean your hands with sanitiser before you drive away).
  10. The re-use shop at Bryn Lane remains closed for now, so keep your stuff for the reuse shop at home.
