MORE than 200 new coronavirus deaths have been recorded at hospitals in England, the latest figures show.

A total of 208 new deaths were announced in data released today (November 30).

Of those, 21 occured in the east of England, 15 in London, 63 in the midlands, 50 in the north east and Yorkshire, 32 in the north west, 14 in the south east, and 13 in the south west.

No new deaths were recorded at hospitals in Herefordshire, where NHS England figures show 74 people have died in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
