Oswestry Angels are launching a new initiative in Oswestry to make sure all older people in the Oswestry area receive a gift this Christmas.
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, many elderly people within care settings have been lonely and isolated and have had limited contact with relatives.
This issue is doubly compounded by the fact that, also because of the pandemic, care homes have been unable to fundraise to buy gifts for their residents.
But Shelly McGlinchey from Oswestry Angels is seeking to change this and is encouraging Oswestry residents to donate gifts.
"Because of the pandemic these care settings will not have had the opportunity to raise funds this year to provide gifts for all," explained Shelly. "So it is our hope to make sure they all get a gift and put a smile on their faces.
"For some this could be their last Christmas so let’s make it a memorable happy one.
"We are asking for the community to buy gifts and drop them off at our local contact points.
"So far these include Morrisons, Liar Liar Coffee House, The Highwayman and Co-op Victoria Road.
"If any other business would like to offer their help please get in touch via our Facebook group 'A Christmas Wish'."
