THE owners of a shop in Oswestry forced to close after one day's trading because of the second lockdown have vowed to keep going.

Under One Roof, in Beatrice Street, is a new family business was officially opened in Oswestry by the town's mayor, Councillor Duncan Kerr on Wednesday, November 4.

The store's premises caters for around 20 different artists or brands, but with Prime Minister Boris Johnson putting England into a lockdown on November 5, the store was set to close until December 2, at the earliest.

Sarah Wright opened Under One Roof, and she promises that many of her co-creators and peers are still thinking of ways to enhance what they offer when lockdown ends.

"One day before England was to be placed in a second lockdown many businesses were preparing to reduce hours, adapt staffing or even close," she said.

"Oswestry, however, was gaining a brand new store uniting nearly 20 artists and creative designers.

"A ribbon-cutting moment officially marked the new store open for business and after making a purchase the Mayor commented that he liked all of the products in the shop but was particularly interested in the Urban B concrete pots which caught his eye.

“It is a real shame we were only able to be open for one day, but we decided to carry on because fortune favours the brave.

"We are proud to have nearly 20 local artists and independent creative brands in the store and it was great to see so many people come along on the day.

“Together with my partner, Josh Rogers, we took the store through a full refurbishment to be ready to open to the public.

"In the near future we hope to apply for funding from the Heritage Action Zone, as recommended by the mayor, for us to be able to convert the upper floors to residential space.”

Meanwhile, during lockdown, Under One Roof has taken the shop online at urban-b.co.uk/oneroof and is offering a free click-and-collect service for customers throughout lockdown.

Cllr Kerr upraised what he saw at the shop.

He said: "The craftsmanship and skill of the artisans that had produced the items, now all Under One Roof, is incredible but it is just what I have come to expect from this area.”
