MALPAS will get into the 'spirit' of things this Halloween by running a spooky trail through the village.

The Halloween trail is being run by Malpas Alport's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) as a follow up to previous fundraising ventures.

In September the group ran an arts competition which was able to raise £700 and PTA chairman Moe Hutson is hoping the latest fundraiser will also be a success.

"As you can imagine, fundraising in the current climate is challenging to say the least," said Moe. "Since the beginning of this term our new PTA teams has recognised the impact Covid has had on our community and therefore wants to ensure we balance fundraising with the needs of our pupils, their families and our local community.

"In September we ran a hugely successful art competition for the children to decorate a Smarties tube, we raised a massive £700 and the children had some very creative entries.

"With Halloween coming up and the children being discouraged to trick or treat, we came up with a village wide Halloween Trail.

"We've sold more than 115 copies of the maps along with goody bags/sweet bags packed full of treats for the local children.

"We have more than 25 home and business owners decorating the village to be part of our trail and have had donations from local businesses from sweets for our goody bags to printing of our maps.

"The trail will be run all though half term week in order for us to ensure no gatherings take place, and participants, whether people doing the trail or decorating houses, are being encouraged to follow our Covid-safe guidelines at all times.

"It's going to be a lovely event and children hopefully will dress up whilst completing the trail.

"We're also doing a free half term activity with the children which will also hopefully get some good participation."
