WHITCHURCH Town Council has made further steps towards seeing Centre North East re-established as a charity-run youth centre.

At September's full council meeting a future plan for Centre North East was agreed upon, including works to fix the building's roof and sub-letting the building to a yet-to-be formed Community Interest Company.

At the town council's October meeting, held virtually on Thursday, October 15, acting clerk Gillian Bailey shored up plans with councillors ahead of discussions with Shropshire Council.

"Shropshire Council is advised that Whitchurch Town Council wish to proceed so now it's about getting the lease sorted," said Ms Bailey. "I will arrange a meeting with Shropshire Council.

"In terms of funding I am arranging a meeting to look at the place plan to look at the wording to put in a bid for CIL local.

"And at the same time we are looking at setting up a charity with a view to actually running the building once the lease and works are completed."

Councillor Harvey Vasey, who is spearheading plans to get Centre North East back into use, also gave an update on the current progress on the project.

"We've got a very crunch timetable we're working on," he said. "We've got confirmation the £10,000 can be picked up and the people working on the roof say it can be completed before Christmas.

"If Cllr Will McDonnell and I can get moving along we can report progress back to November full council."
