A GROUP in Chirk Bank which is fundraising for a local children’s play area has raised more than £600 at a recent fundraising event.

Friends of Chirk Bank Play Park fundraising group was overwhelmed by the support of the community, friends and family at their first fundraising event, held on October 4, which saw members raise a massive £635.

The money is being raised to provide new children’s play equipment, as well as adult exercise equipment, in the Chirk Bank Park.

The raffle event was the first event organised by the group, which is hoping to raise a total of more than £25,000 to purchase the new equipment.

After receiving approval from Shropshire Council earlier in the year, the group is now hoping to get into full swing of its fundraising events.

A spokesman for the group thanked those who donated raffle prizes for the recent event.

They said: “A huge thank you to all that donated raffle prizes – these include; Stans Superstore, M&S, Cadburys, Usbourne books, Hand Hotel, The Bridge Inn, Chirk Leisure Centre, Wockhardt UK, Jamie Ward Butcher, Henlle Golf Club, Meraki Colour, British Ironworks, Harrison Tree Services & local residents.
