Chirk Railway Station could become the UK’s favourite station after its success at the National Rail Awards last month.

The station has been nominated after it was named the Best Small Station in the UK at the National Rail Awards.

It is one of five Transport for Wales stations nominated to take part in the World Cup of Stations which aims to find the UK’s favourite.

The competition is being run through Twitter polls, organised by the Rail Delivery Group.

A total of 48 stations across the UK have been entered, with Chirk, Cardiff Central, Newport, Swansea and Pontypridd representing Wales.

Chirk is part of a group made up of stations which won the Best Station awards at the National Rail Awards, while the remaining four Welsh stations are in the same group competing for a place in the semi-finals.

Voting began on Monday, October 12 at 9am, and will close at 6pm on Wednesday, October 14.

Once voting is finished, the semi-finals will take place over the next 24 hours, before the result of the final will be decided on Friday, October 16.

To vote, follow @RailDeliveryGrp on Twitter, and join in the conversation using the hashtag #WorldCupOfStations.

Chirk Railway Station, which is looked after by Friends of Chirk Station, opened in 1848 and had more than 77,000 visitors during the year of 2018 to 2019.
