ONE PERSON has died from Covid-19 and the number of recorded coronavirus cases in Shropshire increased by 20 over the last 24 hours, official figures show.

NHS England figures show 172 people had died in hospital at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as of 5pm on Wednesday, October 7.

It means there have been three deaths in the past week, compared to the previous were there were no new deaths recorded.

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.

Meanwhile Public Health England (PHE) figures show that 2,010 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by the same date in Shropshire, up from 1,990 the same time on Tuesday.

The Middle Super Output Areas map currently shows there are 10 cases of Covid-19 in both Oswestry and Whitchurch.

The rate of infection in Shropshire now stands at 622 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 827.
