THE decision to upgrade WiFi access at Oswestry Indoor Market has been called 'common sense' b y a town councillor.
At Monday's Finances and General Purposes Committee, councillors were asked to note information that the internet access in the Market Hall – on the Bailey head – will be upgraded at a cost of £1,500.
A mini report drafted to councillors, it was noted the money to make the upgrade for a system, labelled 'outdated' will be taken out of the maintenance fund for the Market Hall.
It added: "As more users are using the system, it is getting slower and often needs rebooting.
"The council encourage traders to have an online presence to complement their trading and there is an increasing customer demand for cashless payments.
"Given this, the system needs to be upgraded and the unit changed to one that provides greater signal strength. The improved technology also improves the customer security for card payments."
In the meeting, Councillor Sandy Best, said she approved of the upgrade.
She added: "It seems to make an awful lot of common sense that if it’s being used more extensively then it’s only to be encouraged and I have no objections."
Deputy mayor Cllr Mark Jones added: "It’s a good idea and I have used it myself too. It will be a benefit to everyone and when the world returns to normal, it will be good for people to use it."
