The chairman of Chirk Town Council will remain in his position for a further six months

Councillor Brian Colley has held the position for 18 months, and will continue in his role for a further six months until the next annual meeting.

Councillors voted in favour of cllr Colley remaining as chairman, with his tenure lasting longer than expected because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He reflected on his 18 months in the role and praised the council and the community for their perseverance.

“I think it’s fair to say the last 12 to 18 months have been the most challenging in Chirk Town Council and Chirk community in recent years,” he said.

“The Covid-19 worldwide pandemic hit us all in February and March, and has had a major impact on Chirk Town Council operations, meetings and business.

“We are all impressed with the fantastic community spirit within Chirk.

“Individuals, businesses and voluntary organisations all did a great job in the initial lockdown period.”

He added: “I wish to express my thanks to councillors, the clerk and the caretakers for their efforts over the past 18 months.

“Despite external pressures, which have been remarkable, we have made good progress.”

He also thanked previous clerk Shaun Jones and praised new clerk Karen Brown for her work.
