MORE than 100 jobs are at risk after a major employer in Llanfyllin announced plans to close its factory in the town.

Car parts manufacturer Stadco has informed its staff that it is restructuring its body-in-white divisions – which produces panels for major car manufacturers.

The business, which is based in Ffordd Y Cain in the town and is part of Canadian car parts giant Magna International, said all of its 129 roles in Llanfyllin were at risk, along with another 40 in Telford and three in the West Midlands.

A spokesman said: "The proposal if ratified would see the closure of its Powys facility, in addition to headcount reductions at its Telford and Castle Bromwich facilities and Group offices.

"This will put 129 employees at risk in Powys, 40 in Telford and 3 in Castle Bromwich.

"A period of formal collective consultation will now begin with the recognised Trade Union, employee representatives and individuals as appropriate.

"Magna is focused on ensuring continued supply for current customers and providing support and assistance to all affected employees.

"As this is an ongoing process, we cannot disclose any further information at this time."
