The UK Government’s internal Markets Bill is not just about breaking international law.
It is about taking back to Westminster powers devolved to Wales 20 years ago. It amounts to a massive power grab from the devolved nations and must be resisted.
The Bill grabs powers for Westminster which were devolved to Wales 20 years ago. It is an assault on devolution.
The Bill gives UK Government the powers of spending on infrastructure economic development, culture, sport and insists on the same regulations prevailing across the whole of the UK with no special powers in the devolved nations to protect what matters to us in Wales.
This will herald a race to the bottom and will undermine current food standards, animal welfare and environmental protection.
This Bill is an attack on democracy and an affront to the people of Wales.
Decisions on support for our businesses, our food and welfare standards, our environment and Welsh infrastructure investments must be made in Wales.
If you support the fact that Wales has been able to determine the rules that have fitted us best throughout coronavirus, if you have ever worked for a company or volunteered for an organisation which has benefitted from Welsh Government investment and if you believe that Wales can make decisions for itself and that Westminster does not know us better than we know ourselves, then oppose this bill.
Write to your local Conservative MP, Craig Williams and ask why he is supporting breaching international law and attacking devolution. Write to our First Minister in Wales, Mark Drakeford and tell him that you support Welsh Government’s position in resisting this power grab.
