A CHIRK garden centre is taking part in a UK-wide effort to raise funds for a well-known national cancer charity.

Dobbies Garden Centres is raising money for Macmillan’s Coffee Morning by hosting its own ‘Raise a Cup’ event in the Moreton Park store.

‘Raise a Cup’ will run until Sunday, September 27 in Dobbies’ restaurants across the UK, from 10:30am each day.

Customers will be able to enjoy a hot drink and a cake for £5.99, and there will be opportunities to make donations at the till and throughout the restaurant.

Graeme Jenkins, chief executive officer at Dobbies, has encouraged people to visit the centre and help raise funds for the charity throughout the week.

He said: “Macmillan Cancer Support deliver amazing work and we hope that our ‘Raise a Cup’ event contributes to the fantastic fundraising efforts taking place across the UK.

“We encourage everyone to make their coffee count during this week and visit Dobbies Moreton Park to raise a cup for this worthwhile cause.”

The official coffee morning takes place on Friday, September 25, with Dobbies hosting a special Facebook Live with coffee specialists, Matthew Algie from 1pm to 1.45pm.

Gosia Lendzioszek, who is a coffee excellence manager, will chat through fun facts and myth busters about coffee, host demonstrations, invite questions, as well as encouraging people to donate online.

Dobbies will also be encouraging customers to show off their best home-baking on social media with a competition to win an Afternoon Tea for two.

Macmillan is encouraging the public to do ‘whatever it takes’ to get involved in the annual coffee morning fundraiser which turns 30 this year.

People can show their support in a series of different ways, such as by hosting a safe and socially-distanced stall on their doorstep – adhering to Covid-19 guidelines, organising an online get-together or by taking part in a fitness challenge.

Customers will be in with a chance of winning a cake bundle by guessing the weight of it, with a winner to be selected from every store.

Dobbies will give the full donation from the sale of cupcakes, collections at the tills and buckets located in the restaurants, from guess the weight of the cake bundle as well as online during the Facebook Live event.

Social distancing and safety measures are in place in the restaurants, with reduced capacity.
