TWO schoolchildren from Hanmer have raised more than £1,000 by climbing Wales' highest mountain.

Tom Kearsley and Richard Sproston climbed Snowdon on August 20, with the aim of raising £300 to fund new resources for St Chad's School.

But with the support of their family and friends, and teachers and parents of the school, the pair were able to raise £1,226 for their goal.

Tom and Richard also wanted to say a special 'thank you' to Hanmer Shop for their contribution in raising £170 towards their final amount.

Headteacher at the school, Gaynor Purcell said she was proud of the boy's achievement.

"They thoroughly enjoyed the climb up Snowdon and felt overwhelmed by the support they had received," she said.

"I am very proud of the boys and their wonderful achievement."
