YSGOL Bryn Alyn, like many high schools, are having to do things a little differently this year.

Year 6 parents are already looking at secondary schools for 2021 and without the usual Open Evening events that schools usually host it could be a difficult task.

At Ysgol Bryn Alyn (YBA), staff are doing everything they can to give parents and pupils a flavour of their school.

Headteacher Mrs Adele Slinn said: “I know it is always a difficult decision when it comes to choosing a secondary school for your child at the best of times and this year it has been made especially difficult as parents and pupils cannot come into school to meet our fantastic staff and wonderful pupils.

“I would like to reassure parents that we will be providing information to parents using virtual events to give a flavour of our amazing school.

“We are hosting a variety of events over the next month to show what our school has to offer including a virtual tour, webinars where parents can ask questions to staff and pupils as well as videos showing a day in the life of YBA.

Mrs Slinn says staff are immensely proud of the school and what it has to offer.

She continued: “Our school motto is ‘Dream, Reach, Achieve’. This really does encapsulate the ethos of our school.

“Every child is supported to achieve their dreams. In their time with us students are encouraged to develop resilience, aspiration and honour in everything they do. This ethos has been aptly demonstrated by one of our students this year who was one of the highest achieving students in Wales with 13A* grades. Our staff fully support each and every student to achieve their dreams.”

Ysgol Bryn Alyn has already released a ‘teaser trailer’ for their open evening on social media and is planning a wide variety of online events to support parents in their choices.

Deputy Headteacher Johanna Ebrey added: “Although we can’t meet parents and pupils face-to-face I would urge parents to look at our school’s website and attend our virtual events this year. There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions and really get to know us as a school.

“YBA is an amazing community where we encourage every child to become the best they can be. We are really excited to host our virtual events and hope that parents and pupils find them informative and helpful.”

Ysgol Bryn Alyn’s Virtual Open Evening will be held on September 30 with later webinars on October 1 at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. The school is also offering socially-distanced tours, from 3.30pm onwards, by appointment only on October 6, 7 and 8.
