A SPECIAL tribute was paid to the NHS heroes on Friday to thank them for their work on the front line fight against coronavirus.

A 'THANK U NHS' spitfire took to the skies over North Wales' five hospitals to pay tribute to the staff caring for people with Covid-19.

The plane is known as a fighter plane but on Friday afternoon it was seen peacefully gliding across the skies to thank staff for their hard work at at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, Llandudno General Hospital, Abergele Hospital, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan and Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Written on the plane were names of loved ones.

Gwyneth Goodwin said: "Yes, thank you NHS. Pray the nightmare isn't about to strike you all again."

Nathan Powell added: "Yes I was on the bus when it flew over. A brilliant gesture to be honest."

Becci Lucy said she saw it over Wepre School shortly after 3pm and could see it 'crystal clear'.

She said: "Thank you NHS. Lovely."
