THE county’s High Sheriff enjoyed a packed visit to Oswestry which saw her meet 17 organisations from the town.

As part of her tour around Shropshire, Dean Harris stopped off in Oswestry on Tuesday to meet Mayor Duncan Kerr for a day organised by town clerk Arren Roberts.

The pair visited the Cambrian Heritage Railway, The Qube, Oswestry BID, Petworld, Majors and Booka Bookshop before moving on to St Oswald Church and then Cae Glas Park to meet head park keeper Sue Cameron.

She also met with representatives from Chloe Elizabeth Dance, Adrenaline Sporting Events, Oswestry Team Tennis and TNS FC Foundation.

The party then went on to visit OsNosh, Designs in Mind, Oswestry Museum, Attfield Theatre, and Oswestry Border Tourism – where the High Sheriff had the honour of opening their new premises.

Mrs Harris was pleased she got to see much of what she described as a traditional north Shropshire market town.

She said: “It was a packed itinerary and by noon I’d done 10,000 steps.

“We ended the visit with very welcome refreshments and lunch with the mayor, fellow councillors and guests in the Guildhall.

“Oswestry is very much a traditional North Shropshire market town with a community which is very friendly and also very proud of its status as a border town, the gateway to Wales.

“It has award-winning weekly markets, an eclectic mix of independent shops and a great deal of history.

“With staycations being the order of the day currently, we could all do worse than exploring what Shropshire has to offer – and there really is something for everyone here.

“Oswestry, you did not disappoint – thank you.”

The visit was one of 16 which Mrs Harris is conducting throughout Shropshire, in a bid to meet as many organisations and individuals as possible and thank them for their hard work and community spirit.
