A NEW event will take place at a Chirk café this week to raise funds for a local hospice.

On Friday, August 28, Caffi Wylfa in Castle Road will be donating 50 per cent of all money received from sales between 9.30am and 5pm to Wrexham-based Nightingale House Hospice.

The cafe is hoping to attract as many customers as possible throughout the day as they look to support the hospice which serves families in Chirk and across the region.

There have been several events held at Caffi Wylfa in the past in support of Nightingale House Hospice, including the Donate Don’t Dump initiative.

Glyn Wylfa director Brian Colley highlighted the importance of supporting charities now after a drop in fundraising levels during the pandemic.

“It’s a chosen partner charity of ours that we’ve supported for many years now,” he said.

“We’ve had various initiatives throughout the years to raise funds for them, including dog walks and a Nightingale scone.

“So over the years we have always given them our support.

“This one we feel is very important because many charities, such as Nightingale, have not had the normal level of support from various sources, therefore a lot of charities are suffering from a shortage of funding.”

The hospice provides specialist palliative care, free of charge, for patients and their families in Chirk, Wrexham, Flintshire, and reaching out as far as Oswestry, Whitchurch and Barmouth and East Denbighshire.

Mr Colley described the services offered by the hospice as invaluable.

He said: “The work they do is extremely important for the families of Chirk and Wrexham, and beyond that too.

“We value their services very much to help and assist those people who need their support.”

He has also urged people in the area to support the new event on Friday.

“Please come along and support our sponsorship initiative,” he added.

“There will be people there helping out on a voluntary basis to help with serving and cleaning.

“We would like to urge people to come along and support the charity.”
